Inositol is a vitamin-like substance. It is found in many plants andanimals. It is also produced in the human body and can be made in a laboratory.Inositol can be found in many forms (called isomers). The most common forms aremyo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol.

Inositol is used to for metabolicsyndrome and polycysticovary syndrome (PCOS). It's also used for many otherconditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of theseuses.

Inositol might balance certain chemicals in the body to possibly helpwith mental conditions such as panic disorder, depression, andobsessive-compulsive disorder. It might also help insulin work better. Thismight help with conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome or diabetes duringpregnancy.
